WWII Warsaw tour

On Sep. 1st 1939, 1.8 million German troops invaded Poland on 3 fronts. 2 weeks later, on Sep. 17th, 1939, 1.1 million Soviet troops invaded Poland from the east. Warsaw defended under the siege until Sep. 28, 1939, when the Polish garrison capitulated. On Oct. 1, 1939 the Wermacht entered Warsaw, which started a period of Nazi occupation that lasted until the Warsaw Uprising 1944 and later till Jan. 17, 1945. Since the first days the Nazis had arrested and executed the Varsovians or had taken them to the concentration or extremination camps. From 1943, a concentration camp existed also in Warsaw – KL Warschau. To resist the Nazi terror both Polish and Jewish underground military organisations were formed, including the Polish underground Home Army controlled by the Polish Government in Exile, the Jewish resistance in isolated ghetto and underground scout groups – the “Grey Ranks”
